For too long, all of us have been frustrated by politicians who promise one thing on election day, and then fail to stand up for those values once elected.

You shall know them by their deeds, and the question we should ask of every candidate is:

“You say you believe in these principles.
Show me.
When have you fought for conservative principles,
when have you bled for them,
and what have you accomplished?”

After over a decade in public service, Ted Cruz has a proven record, over and over again, of standing up for conservative values, fighting the good fight, and winning on a national level:


Faith:

• Under the leadership of Attorney General Greg Abbott, successfully defended the constitutionality of the Texas Ten Commandments monument, winning in a 5-4 landmark decision before the U.S. Supreme Court;

• authored a U.S. Supreme Court brief for all fifty States successfully defending the Pledge of Allegiance;

• successfully defended the Texas moment of silence law in federal district court;

• successfully defended the Texas pledge of allegiance in federal district court;

• authored a U.S. Supreme Court amicus brief for the States in support of Joshua Davey in Locke v. Davey, supporting his constitutional right not to be excluded from state scholarships funds simply because he chose to study theology from a devotional perspective;

• argued before the en banc Fifth Circuit in Staley v. Harris County, supporting the constitutionality of a Houston courthouse monument that contained a Bible donated by the founder of the Star of Hope mission;

• authored an amicus brief on behalf of 6 States in Barnes-Wallace v. Boy Scouts of America, supporting the Boy Scouts and urging the Ninth Circuit to reverse a district court ruling barring them from leasing a public park.


Combating Sexual Predators:

• successfully defended the constitutionality of Texas Sexually Violent Predator Civil Commitment law before the Texas Supreme Court;

• argued before the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of nine States in Kennedy v. Louisiana, in support of capital punishment for the very worst child rapists;


Defending U.S. Sovereignty:

• successfully represented Texas before the U.S. Supreme Court in Medellin v. Texas, which upheld U.S. sovereignty and held that the World Court cannot bind the U.S. justice system and the President cannot order the state courts to obey the World Court.


Leading the Fight for the Second Amendment Right to Keep and Bear Arms:

• successfully defended for 31 States the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms, winning in a 5-4 landmark decision before the U.S. Supreme Court;


Life:

• authored an amicus brief for 13 States, successfully defending the federal Partial Birth Abortion Act and winning 5-4 before the U.S. Supreme Court;

• authored an amicus brief for 18 States, successfully defending the New Hampshire parental notification law, and winning 9-0 before the U.S. Supreme Court [note: this brief was awarded the Best Brief Award from the National Association of Attorneys General for U.S. Supreme Court briefs written in 2005-06];

• successfully defended Texas’s Rider 8, which prohibits state funds for groups that provide abortions, winning unanimously before the Fifth Circuit court of appeals;


Traditional Marriage:

• when a Beaumont state court granted a divorce to two homosexual men who had gotten a civil union in Vermont, intervened in defense of the marriage laws of the State of Texas which successfully led to the court judgment being vacated;

• worked with Attorney General Greg Abbott to draft a letter to Congress in defense of the federal Defense of Marriage Act;


Defending Property Rights:

• authored a U.S. Supreme Court amicus brief on behalf of 7 States in Rancho Viejo v. Norton, urging the Supreme Court to grant certiorari and reverse a decision of the DC Circuit upholding congressional authority to halt commercial development of private property because of the presence of a purely intra-state species of Arroyo toads;


Sensible Lawsuit Reform:

• argued Robinson v. Crown Cork & Seal Co. before the Texas Supreme Court, the first case addressing the constitutionality of HB 4, the landmark Texas tort reform legislation;

• as the head of the Office of Policy Planning at the Federal Trade Commission, lead efforts for the FTC to intervene in defense of consumers in several class action lawsuits, with the FTC successfully opposing insignificant coupon settlements and excessive attorneys fees;

• as Domestic Policy Advisor to President George W. Bush on the 2000 Bush-Cheney campaign, responsible for developing the President’s lawsuit reform proposals;


Fighting Bigotry and Racial Hatred:

• authored a U.S. Supreme Court amicus brief on behalf of 10 States in Rahn v. Robb, urging the Supreme Court to grant certiorari and reverse a decision of the Eight Circuit allowing the Ku Klux Klan to participate in Kansas’s “Adopt-A-Highway” program;


Defending the Rights of our Armed Forces:

• authored a U.S. Supreme Court amicus brief on behalf of 11 States in FAIR v. Rumsfeld successfully defending the constitutionality of the federal Solomon Amendment, which requires universities receiving federal funds to grant U.S. military recruiters equal access to campuses, notwithstanding the universities’ opposition to the military’s policies concerning sexual orientation;

• authored a U.S. Supreme Court amicus brief on behalf of 12 States in Bunting v. Mellen, urging the Supreme Court to grant certiorari and reverse a decision of the Fourth Circuit striking down the daily suppertime prayer for cadets at Virginia Military Institute;


Securing our Nation’s Borders:

• Authored a U.S. Supreme Court amicus brief on behalf of 10 States in Lopez v. Gonzales, urging the strictest enforcement of laws punishing those with prior felony convictions who entered the country illegally;


Fighting Voter Fraud:

• Authored an amicus brief on behalf of 8 States in Crawford v. Marion County Election Board, defending the Indiana photo-ID law and winning 6-3 before the U.S. Supreme Court;

• Defended a lawsuit brought by the Texas Democratic Party seeking to prevent the enforcement of the Texas voter fraud laws, and successfully won a unanimous reversal from the federal court of appeals of the district court’s injunction against the continued enforcement of voter fraud laws;


Congressional Redistricting:

• successfully defended the 2003 Texas congressional redistricting, winning before the state trial court, the federal trial court, and, 5-4, before the U.S. Supreme Court.
