AUSTIN—The Ted Cruz for U.S. Senate campaign launched its first television ad of the Senate race today, emphasizing Cruz’s proven record of defending conservative principles and winning nationally.

The 30-second spot, “Delivers,” highlight’s Cruz’s successful work as the Solicitor General of Texas defending U.S. sovereignty against the United Nations and World Court in the case Medellin vs. Texas. The ad also reaffirms Cruz’s commitment to leading the fight for fiscal responsibility in Washington.

“Our first TV ad highlights Ted Cruz’s proven record as a strong conservative and a fighter,” said James Bernsen, the campaign’s communications director. “Texas primary voters are eager for conservative reinforcements in the Senate to stand for the Constitution, cut spending, and defeat the Obama agenda.”

The central case discussed in the ad is Medellin vs. Texas. Jose Ernesto Medellin brutally gang-raped and murdered two teenage girls in Houston. When the World Court tried to order the United States to reopen Medellin’s conviction (along with the convictions of 50 other murderers), Cruz fought the World Court and the U.N. all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court and won 6-3.

“It’s been incredibly encouraging that Texans across the State are responding to Ted’s proven conservative record and his passion for fighting for liberty and defending the Constitution,” Bernsen added. “Voters are rightfully weary of being let down by politicians in both parties. New Ads Highlight Proven Conservative Record

AUSTIN—Ted Cruz for Senate will begin airing two 60-second radio ads statewide across Texas today, the campaign announced. The new ads highlight Cruz’s proven conservative record and are the campaign’s first paid media buy of the 2012 primary race.

“Conservatives across Texas are energized by Ted’s campaign, and the more they hear his message, the more it resonates,” said James Bernsen, the campaign’s communications director. “Texans want a conservative fighter with a proven record of standing for conservative values and winning at the national level. They don’t want timid, career politicians who won’t stand up to the Obama administration.”

One of the new ads, “Delivered,” highlights Cruz’s proven record of fighting for conservative principles, specifically defending U.S. sovereignty and standing up for three million veterans. The other ad, “Fighter,” emphasizes Cruz’s family history of fleeing oppression in Cuba. Ted’s father fought against the oppressive Batista regime before he fled to Texas in 1957.

“Ted has made the fight for liberty his life work because he knows what the alternative is,” Bernsen said. “He will lead the fight to repeal Obamacare, cut spending to reduce our deficit, push a balanced budget amendment, and turn back the incredible proliferation of new regulations and mandates that are strangling our economy and stifling job creation.”

As Texas Solicitor General, Ted successfully represented Texas before the U.S. Supreme Court in Medellin v. Texas, which upheld U.S. sovereignty and held that the World Court cannot bind the U.S. justice system and the President cannot order the state courts to obey the World Court.

More recently, Cruz successfully represented over three million veterans before the U.S. Supreme Court in Salazar v. Buono, defending the constitutionality of the Mojave Desert Veterans Memorial, which was erected in 1934 to honor WWI veterans. Along with co-counsel Kelly Shackelford of the Liberty Institute, Cruz represented as amici The American Legion, The Veterans of Foreign Wars, The Military Order of the Purple Heart, and the American Ex-Prisoners of War. In April 2010, the Supreme Court handed down a 5-4 decision in favor of the veterans.
