Half of statewide TFRW officers who can endorse support Cruz campaign
AUSTIN—Ted Cruz for Senate announced today that 115 leaders of the Texas Federation of Republican Women—all across Texas—have united to support the campaign. And though TFRW by-laws prohibit many statewide officers from endorsing in primaries, of the officers who are allowed to endorse and intend on endorsing, half are formally supporting Cruz. These Republican Women are part of the growing conservative movement uniting behind the Cruz campaign.
“Texas Republican women always lead the way, and I’m honored to have the support from so many great leaders,” Cruz said. “Their passion, energy, and commitment to conservative principles is legendary. I couldn’t have better allies in my fight to take on the Obama Administration’s job-killing, tax-raising agenda.”
Although the TFRW itself does not endorse, and many of its officers are prohibited in the by-laws from doing so, 28 TFRW statewide officers are free and willing to do so in the primary. Of these, 14 have already officially signed on as supporters of Ted Cruz.
Kaye T. Goolsby, former Vice President of TFRW and the Ted Cruz for Senate State Grassroots Chairman, said “Ted is the obvious choice to take on the Obama agenda because he’s spent a lifetime standing up and fighting for conservative values.”
“Ted Cruz is the only proven conservative in the Senate race,” Goolsby said. “We can always count on him to stand up for U.S. sovereignty, the Constitution, and traditional values. I’m proud to support him and urge Republican women across the state to join me.”
“Rarely does a candidate come along I get so excited about supporting,” said TFRW Deputy President for Region V, Sherry Peterson, of Pearland. “Ted Cruz is exactly the kind of conservative we should be uniting behind. He can articulate conservative principles, has a compelling personal story, and is the best candidate to stop the Obama agenda.”
Kendall County member Barbara Larson, TFRW Vice President for Legislation, said other candidates may talk conservative, but Cruz is the real thing.
“Ted’s record has shown that he actually is a conservative,” Larson said. “He won’t compromise with liberals, and will not only vote the right way in the Senate, but will really help advance the conservative cause. We need him in the Senate to truly cut spending, limit the size of government, and get our nation back on the road to fiscal sanity.”
The Cruz campaign has tremendous momentum and support, with endorsements from nearly all the conservative leaders in Texas and nationally. The campaign is featured on the current cover of National Review magazine, which calls Cruz “the next great conservative hope.” In addition, conservative columnist George Will called Cruz “a candidate as good as it gets.”
Cruz is the only candidate in the country to be endorsed by Club for Growth PAC, Senate Conservatives Fund, and FreedomWorks PAC, as well as these four conservative senators: Jim DeMint, Mike Lee, Rand Paul, and Pat Toomey. The campaign is building up a grassroots army, with an organization in place in the 101 most populous Texas counties, together comprising 94% of the primary voting population.
