Radical Left Attacks Over Rush Ads

April 2, 2012

By Ted Cruz

Recently, Progress Texas attacked me for advertising on the Rush Limbaugh radio program. They encouraged their liberal base to bash me on Twitter as well. But if they think they can scare me off, they don’t know me.  And if they think they can intimidate Rush, well, they don’t know Rush Limbaugh.

Rush has been a hero to the conservative movement for decades.  He’s passionate and he’s fearless.  He led the fight against Hillarycare in the 1990s.  He exposes the lies of the Left, and he speaks out for conservatives every day.  And he can’t be muzzled or controlled.

Rush—along with Hannity, Glenn Beck, Mark Levin, and others—broke the stranglehold that the mainstream media had on news.  It used to be just three networks and a handful of newspaper editors that got to decide what was and wasn’t news.  And they used their power to try to shape the debate and to advance their big-government agenda.

Now, between talk radio, Fox News, and the Internet, the people can get their news directly.  And we can speak out, and cut out the middlemen.

That’s why the mainstream media hates Rush, and why they have been hammering so hard on his ill-advised comments concerning Sandra Fluke.  Rush has rightly apologized for those comments, but that’s not enough for his enemies.  They want to do everything they can to try to silence him, because he is such an effective voice against them.

It’s not going to work.  Especially because those leading the lynch mob are applying a hypocritical double standard.  They don’t issue a peep of complaint when Bill Maher directs vulgar sexual epithet at Sarah Palin or (even worse) at her daughter Bristol.  Nor do they complain when Jimmy Fallon greets Michele Bachmann with a derogatory and misogynist theme song.

Indeed, President Barack Obama used this as a chance to pile on and attack Rush, but Obama’s super PAC happily accepted a $1 million check from Bill Maher.  Send the check back, and maybe they might have a little more credibility.

This is all politics, and it’s cynical and manipulative.

They’re attacking Rush because he speaks the truth and stands up to their liberal agenda.  And I am proud to advertise on his show.  In fact, in light of these attacks, we might even up the buy…
